Zambia: Formation of Guardians

On November 7-9, 2017, a formation course for the guardians of the Province of the Franciscan Protomartyrs in Zambia was held in Ndola, Zambia.

The course was led by Friar Louis PANTHIRUVELIL, the Secretary General for Formation (SGF) and Friar Emanuele RIMOLI of the Seraphicum.
The themes of the identity, role and service of the guardian were developed from different points of view: theological-anthropological, psycho-pedagogical, Franciscan, juridical and cultural, with an interesting presentation by Professor Felix NONDO.
Classroom work alternated with workshop discussion and moments of prayer.
The course ended with an open forum led by the Minister Provincial, Friar Richard CHIMFWEMBE. During the forum, the fourteen guardians present were able to interact by discussing the needs, plans and difficulties of their communities. At the end, the Minister Provincial handed gave each of the participants a “Guardian’s Diploma”, a mandate listing the qualities of a Minister according to St. Francis.
Friars Louis and Emanuele ended their stay with a visit to the St. Joseph postulancy house and friary in Kalumbwa and a fraternal meeting with the novitiate community Kitwe.
