On December 8, 2024, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, thirty-four new Militia members solemnly performed the act of total consecration to the Immaculate Conception and were enrolled in the group of the Militia of the Immaculata (M.I.) that is canonically erected at the Sacred Convent of St. Francis in Assisi.
The new Militia members are from the city of Assisi and other nearby locations. They prepared for this consecration through various meetings, over a period of more than sixty days. Currently, there are 218 Militia members registered at the Sacred Convent, including the most recently consecrated ones.
The celebration began at 4:00 p.m. with the recitation of the rosary led by Friar Stephen Ochieno OCHWADA, Assistant Novice Master. The event took place at the tomb of St. Francis, in front of the main altar of the Lower Basilica. Next, Friar Tadeusz ŚWIĄTKOWSKI, the M.I. Spiritual Assistant for Assisi, presided over the Rite of Consecration. The ceremony concluded with a hymn cherished by St. Maximilian Kolbe, entitled: “I Will Go and See Her One Day.” Finally, the leaders of the group distributed seven hundred Miraculous Medals to the other faithful attending.
At 5:00 p.m., His Eminence Cardinal Gualtiero BASSETTI, Archbishop Emeritus of Perugia, presided over the Mass honoring the Immaculate Conception.
Those concelebrating included the General Custos of Assisi, Friar Marco MORONI and other friars from the Sacred Convent community.
