At 5:00 p.m. on December 12, 2020, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Friar Jonathan Cristian FUNES LUJÁN of the Provincial Custody of St. Francis in Bolivia was ordained to the priesthood. The ceremony took place at the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen y San Maximiliano Kolbe in Cochabamba-Quintanilla, Bolivia.
The Most Reverend Óscar Omar APARICIO CÉSPEDES, Archbishop of Cochabamba, performed the ordination and presided over Mass. Those present included the Provincial Custos, Friar Carlos Antonio CATALÁN MELGAR; confreres from the Conventual fraternities in Bolivia; some nuns and male religious; family members and faithful. The event was held in compliance with the health regulations in force in Bolivia.
Friar Jonathan celebrated his first Mass on Sunday, December 13, in the presence of the faithful of the parish.
Friar Jonathan was born on September 7, 1985 in Tupiza, Bolivia. He made his simple profession on February 2, 2014; his solemn profession on December 12, 2018; and was ordained to the diaconate on October 1, 2019.
