On June 22, 2018, Friar Lorenzo (Jimmy Boy) AVELINO was ordained a deacon by the Most Reverend Teodoro BUHAIN, Jr., Auxiliary Bishop-Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Manila. The ceremony took place at the St. Joseph friary in Tagaytay City, the Philippines.
In his homily, the ordaining prelate emphasized two points about the kind of pastoral care a deacon should offer, namely, that he should be a minister of loving kindness and a minister of unity. He also spoke about the virtue of perseverance in achieving a fruitful ministry.
The ordination took place on the last day of the annual retreat of the Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception and Blessed Bonaventure of Potenza in the Philippines. The retreat was led by the Most Reverend Pedro ARIGO, Bishop-Emeritus of the Apostolic Vicariate of Palawan, who graced the ordination with his presence.
Others attending included various friars, seminarians, collaborators with the Custody, family members and friends of the newly ordained friar. Representatives from local institutes of men’s and women’s religious also witnessed the event. The celebration concluded with a dinner for all those present.
