August 2, 2021, the feast of Our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula, was a memorable date, especially for Friars Jude SANDIG and Alfie Carl BATTUNG of the Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception and Bl. Bonaventure of Potenza in the Philippines. Both men made their first profession of vows at the St. Joseph Friary Church in Tagatay City.
The Provincial Custos, Friar Francis Victor MATEO, presided over the Mass and received their vows. Due to restrictions enforced by the government in its fight against Covid-19, only the friars and a few family members were able to attend the celebration.
August 15, 2021, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was another memorable date for the seven young friars who renewed their vows at St. Maximilian Seminary Church in Parañaque. They were Friars Matthias MONTERO, Gregory Kenneth SALVA, Anthony Joseph TANDUGON, Alfred Martin DE CASTRO, Martin GABITO, Isidore AYON-AYON, and Augustine ASILO. The Provincial Custos Friar Francis Victor, presided over the Mass and received their vows. It was a private celebration since the city is again under quarantine. In his homily, the Custos highlighted the privilege of Mary’s assumption into heaven and the singular role she played in the life of her Son. The Custos also stressed the role of the family, particularly parents in the evangelization and Christian education of their children. An integral part of home formation is the practical aspect, which includes training in simple tasks and manual labor.
