Project No. 10/2025 –
Installation of Batteries for a Solar Energy System
(Pârâul Rece, Romania)

The Province of St. Joseph, Spouse of the B.V.M. in Romania, of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, has proposed Ecological and Pastoral Project No. 10/2025, entitled, “Installation of Batteries for a Solar Energy System,” aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the friary located in Pârâul Rece (Brașov) by installing an energy storage system for the electricity produced on-site.

The project builds on an intervention carried out in previous years, during which a solar energy system was installed. Initially, it was believed that feeding excess electricity into the national grid would provide an economic benefit. However, experience has shown that the energy sold is underpaid, while energy consumed, particularly at night, results in higher costs for the community.
To address this situation, the project proposes the installation of storage batteries, allowing energy generated during the day to be stored and used when it is needed most. This should reduce overall costs and improve the friary’s energy management.
The initiative is part of the Order’s broader commitment to the care of creation and promotes a more responsible and sustainable use of resources.

The project is currently awaiting funding.

Project No. 10/2025 is now fully funded, and work is underway. The increase is due to rising costs that occurred during the year-long wait for funding. The local community will cover the remaining €1,046.90.
