On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Friars Grzegorz Z\u0104BEK and Patryk PIEKARZ, of the Province of St. Anthony and Bl. James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow), made their first profession of vows, publicly committing themselves to live in obedience, poverty, and chastity for one year. The event took place at the Shrine of the Passion of the Lord and the Mother of God in Kalwaria Pac\u0142awska, Poland<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Minister Provincial of the Province of Cracow, Friar Mariusz KOZIO\u0141, received their vows on behalf of the Church and the fraternity. He reminded both friars that, if they faithfully observe their vows, they will receive eternal life from almighty God. He then presented them with the Rule of St. Francis, describing it as the book of life, the heart of the Gospel, the path to perfection, the key to heaven, and the guarantee of the eternal covenant. He emphasized that following the Rule should lead them to perfect love.
\nIn his homily, the Minister Provincial expressed his joy at welcoming the newly professed friars into the Order. They have been called to follow in the footsteps of St. Francis in the year marking the 800th anniversary of the Saint\u2019s transitus from earth to heaven.
\n\u201cHistory, the walls of the friaries, the documents, and the heritage of the Order are precious in themselves,\u201d he said, \u201cbut it is precisely the new friars who bear witness that, after eight hundred years, the charism of Francis continues to be passed on. It is alive because it lives on in the people who wear the Franciscan habit and follow Jesus Christ.\u201d
\nAddressing the newly professed friars, he then explained what their mission entails: \u201cSt. Paul teaches us: \u2018For me, to live is Christ.\u2019 This is the way of the Friar Minor who follows St. Francis: a person who has experienced God\u2019s love in his own life and who, in His name, invites others to enter the vineyard, to live in full communion with Him. He is ready to go out from morning till night to meet people and proclaim the Gospel to them. He desires to serve selflessly, without grumbling and without comparing himself to others. He sees himself as a missionary.\u201d
\nFriar Grzegorz Z\u0104BEK, a priest with twenty-two years of ministry in Poland and abroad, completed his initial formation at the friary in Kalwaria Pac\u0142awska. After his first profession, he was assigned to pastoral ministry in Sanok, Poland. Friar Patryk PIEKARZ spent his novitiate year in Smardzewice, Poland, and will begin studies in philosophy and theology at the Conventual Franciscan Major Seminary in Cracow on October 1, 2026.<\/p>\n
