{"id":21532,"date":"2019-12-02T15:51:33","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T14:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofmconv.net\/matugga-nuovo-ospedale-missionario\/"},"modified":"2019-12-28T15:55:54","modified_gmt":"2019-12-28T14:55:54","slug":"matugga-nuovo-ospedale-missionario","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ofmconv.net\/en\/matugga-nuovo-ospedale-missionario\/","title":{"rendered":"Matugga: New Mission Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On Sunday, December 1, 2019, World AIDS Day, a ceremony took place to open and bless the new Wanda Health Center, a mission hospital in Matugga, Uganda.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ceremony was presided over by the Most Reverend Cyprian Kizito LWANGA, Archbishop of Kampala, Uganda. During the ceremony, the first child born in this hospital, a girl, was baptized. The girl was given the name Wanda Klara\u2014Klara in honor of St. Clare of Assisi and Wanda in honor of the late Dr. Wanda B\u0141O\u0143SKA, who spent nearly forty years of her professional life working in missions in Uganda.<br \/>\nDr. Wanda treated lepers and trained future nurses how to care for these patients in particular. She taught medicine in many African countries and was known as &#8220;the Mother of Lepers&#8221;. There is great hope that Dr. Wanda will soon be beatified and thus be indicated by the Church as a model for us all.<br \/>\nThe hospital in Matugga was built by friars from the Province of St. Anthony and Bl. James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow). The friars were supported by various institutions and bodies such as St. Anthony\u2019s Charities of Padua, the Provincial Curia of Cracow, some benefactors from Germany, Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M. in Slovakia, etc. The event was attended by representatives from the Ugandan government and parliament, the parishioners of Matugga, and our confreres and missionaries presently in Uganda.
