{"id":27591,"date":"2020-09-21T18:02:28","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T16:02:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ofmconv.net\/romania-commemorazione-di-fra-anton-bisoc\/"},"modified":"2020-09-21T18:05:14","modified_gmt":"2020-09-21T16:05:14","slug":"romania-commemorazione-di-fra-anton-bisoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ofmconv.net\/en\/romania-commemorazione-di-fra-anton-bisoc\/","title":{"rendered":"Romania: Friar Anton BI\u0218OC Commemorated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On Sunday, September 20, 2020, the community of H\u0103l\u0103uce\u0219ti of the Province of St. Joseph Spouse of the B.V.M. in Romania commemorated the 60th anniversary of the death of Friar Anton BI\u0218OC.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Most Reverend Petru GHERGHEL, Bishop Emeritus of Ia\u0219i, celebrated a solemn Mass to commemorate the martyrdom of Friar Anton BI\u0218OC, who died on July 15, 1960, while under house arrest in the village of Fundata, Ialomi\u021ba County, Romania.<br \/>\nA new book by Father Fabian DOBO\u0218 was presented for the occasion, entitled: \u201cFather Anton Benedict Bi\u015foc, OFM Conv., Priest, Teacher, Minister Provincial and Martyr\u201d. The book was published in 2020 by the Sapientia Publishing House, Ia\u0219i, Romania.<br \/>\nFriar Anton BI\u0218OC was born on August 15, 1888, in H\u0103l\u0103uce\u0219ti, Romania. He completed his studies at the Conventual Franciscan seminary in H\u0103l\u0103uce\u0219ti and went on to Rome, where he specialized in biblical studies and moral theology. Finally, on April 15, 1911, he was ordained to the priesthood. On his return to Romania, he served as a pastor in Adjudeni and S\u0103b\u0103oani. In 1927, he became the Director of Seraphic Publishing in S\u0103b\u0103oani, and edited the popular magazine Via\u0163a. Working with Friar Benvenut WIENER, he translated and printed the New Testament and left behind a manuscript translation of the entire Vulgate Bible. From 1938-1940, he was a professor of moral theology at the St. Bonaventure Faculty in Rome. He was twice elected Minister Provincial of Romania. He was an excellent preacher at retreats for priests and seminarians and was a worthy advisor to the Bishop of Ia\u015fi. The Communist regime sentenced him to ten years in prison for teaching catechism to children. He died on July 15, 1960, under house arrest in Fundata.
