The Basilica, like all of us friars, is fully integrated into the life and pastoral mission of the local Church of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, [Italy] led by our Bishop, the Most Reverend Domenico SORRENTINO. At the same time, it has enjoyed a special and direct relationship with the See of Peter since its foundation. The Pontifical Legate for the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi is both the visible face and a concrete sign of this special and ancient bond. I would therefore like, on behalf of our Franciscan community at the Sacred Convent, to express my thanks to three persons: to the Holy Father Leo XIV, for his care and attention; to Cardinal Agostino VALLINI, who served in this valuable and subtle role for many years; and to Cardinal \u00c1ngel FERN\u00c1NDEZ ARTIME, , for his willingness to take on this service.
