On November 20, 2021, five friars of the Provincial Custody of St. Anthony of Padua in Ghana were ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend John Bonaventure KWOFIE, C.S.Sp., Archbishop of Accra, Ghana. The ceremony took place at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Awoshie-Anyaa, Accra. The newly ordained are Friars Kwasi BOATENG, Christian AHIAWODZI, Daniel AFFUL, Gabriel BOATENG and Kennedy TSORMEY.

Friar Eugene ANTWI BOASIAKO, the Vicar Custos, presented the friars to the archbishop for ordination. The Assistant General for the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF), Friar Anthony Bezo KUTIERO, and the Vicar General of the Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi in Ghana, the Very Rev. Father Francis LEMAIRE, were also present at the celebration.
In his homily, Friar Anthony Bezo exhorted the newly ordained to trust in God, who would continue to mold them as the potter of their lives. He reminded them that the Lord knew them, sanctified and commissioned them before they were formed. That implies that God molded them in according to the way He desired. Moreover, just like the potter and his clay, the Lord would continue to mold and remold them in response to His vision and mission.
This historic event was the first priestly ordination of friars at St. Francis of Assisi Church at Awoshie-Anyaa.
Those attending the celebration included priests, religious, parents and other family members of the newly ordained. Parishioners from other parishes under the care of the friars in Custody were also present.
We congratulate our brothers and wish God’s continuous guidance and support for them.

Friar Pius Kofi ASARE, Custodial Secretary
