On Saturday October 17, 2020 twelve friars from the Jurisdictions of the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF) were ordained deacons. The ordinations took place at the Village of Mary, Mother of God, the National Marian Shrine in Subukia, Kenya.

This memorable celebration was the first of its kind to take place at the National Marian Shrine. The Shrine is in the care of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya. The celebration was presided over by the Most Reverend Hubertus Matheus Maria VAN MEGEN, Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan. Those attending included the Minister Provincial of Kenya, Friar Obed M. KAROBIA, the Provincial Custos of Tanzania, Friar Dariusz SZYMBORSKI and friars from all of our friaries in Kenya.
Those ordained to the diaconate were Friars Simon Wahito NJOROGE from the Province of Kenya; Raymond MPUNDU, Derby KAMANGA, Marshall HAMUKOMBO, Emmanuel KANDUWA, Chewe Joshua MUMBA, Cosmas PHIRI, Angel CHANDA and Friar Gabriel CHILEKWA from the Province of Zambia; and Stevin Richard KASHINJE, Abraham Nestorius MSOFFE and Simon Leons NAKEI from the Provincial Custody of Tanzania.
The newly ordained deacons are in their last year of theology studies at Tangaza University College and currently reside at the St. Bonaventure formation house in Nairobi, Kenya.
