On Monday, July 8, 2024, the Elective Assembly of the Franciscan Conference of Mexico (COFRAMEX) was held at the General House of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, in Mexico City, Mexico.
Several Ministers Provincial were present, including Friar Joel COSME TORRES, OFM, of the Province of the Holy Gospel; Friar Ángel Gabino GUTIÉRREZ MARTÍNEZ, OFM, of the Province of Saints Francis and James; Friar Mauricio ALARCÓN MARTÍNEZ, TOR, of the Vice Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe; and the Delegates of other Ministers Provincial of the Friars Minor in Mexico. Friar Fausto de Jesús RAMÍREZ ROSARIO represented the Conventual Franciscans. The Secular Franciscan Order was also present, as were several abbesses and the presidents and superiors of various institutes within the broader Franciscan charism.
The Assembly began at 10:00 a.m. with a prayer led by Sister Angélica DE LOS SANTOS. This was followed by a discussion in which the participants talked about the particular characteristics of their institute. Friar Mauricio ALARCÓN MARTÍNEZ, TOR, spoke about the Franciscan charism.
Next, various reports were made: Friar Ángel GUZMÁN, OFM, gave a report on Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation. Friar Aldo MUÑOZ, OFM Cap., gave a report on the COFRAMEX Statutes. Sister Mónica Isabel GONZÁLEZ, OSC, gave a report on the work of the COFRAMEX Board of Directors. Sister Esther PÉREZ, OFS, gave a report on financial matters. Friar Evencio HERRERA DÍAZ, OFM, President of COFRAMEX, reported on “The Franciscan Family, Present and Absent” as well as his three years of service on the Board.
This was followed by the election of the Presidency [a rotating leadership position held each term by a different member institute] and the Board of Directors for 2025-27. The COFRAMEX Presidency was entrusted to the Friars Minor Conventual who will take office on January 1, 2025.
