Renovation of the Computer Lab
at the St. Francis Elementary School in Legnica (Poland)

The Province of St. Anthony and Bl. James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow) of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, has proposed Educational Project No. 29/2026, entitled “Renovation of the Computer Lab at the St. Francis Elementary School in Legnica (Poland).” This project aims to upgrade the school’s computer equipment to ensure a learning environment that meets current educational needs and fosters the development of students’ digital skills.

The St. Francis Elementary School in Legnica has been run by the Conventual Franciscan friars for over seventy years. It serves approximately 150 students, from first to eighth grade, supported by a teaching and administrative staff of around thirty people. With small class sizes, the school offers an educational program that combines the curriculum required by the public school system with a special focus on human, spiritual, and evangelical growth, inspired by the Franciscan tradition and spirituality.
One distinguishing feature of the school is its connection to the Friar Martyrs of Peru, who studied and taught there. The school preserves their memory and actively promotes awareness of their witness. At the same time, it provides an inclusive environment that supports both gifted students in developing their talents and those who need more personalized assistance, offering a peaceful educational setting and a steady sense of security for students and their families.
The school also promotes charitable initiatives through an association that supports students who come from families facing financial hardship. It also welcomes students from Ukraine and provides them with the conditions they need to integrate successfully into their new educational and social environment.
This project arose in response to the urgent need to replace the school’s outdated computer equipment. The computers currently in use, which support daily lessons, extracurricular activities, and digital literacy courses, are almost twenty years old and frequently malfunction. These breakdowns disrupt teaching activities and create significant difficulties for both teachers and students.
The project will replace twenty computers and their related accessories in the computer lab, as well as another twenty computers used by teachers in classrooms. The new equipment will improve the quality of teaching, strengthen the students’ digital skills, and provide better working conditions for the teaching staff.
The project is particularly important in light of the local economic situation. Legnica is located in an area with limited financial resources, making it difficult for families to contribute to extraordinary school expenses. Furthermore, since St. Francis Elementary School is a non-state school, it is ineligible for public funding programs aimed at modernizing IT infrastructure. Private Catholic schools are excluded from state funding.
The total cost of the project amounts to €25,000. The Province will contribute €5,000 from its own resources, while Caritas Sant’Antonio has generously provided the remaining €20,000, making the full implementation of the project possible. Thanks to this support, the school will receive modern computer equipment, ensuring that the students and teachers have the tools necessary for contemporary education.
Through this project, the Province intends to provide the students and teaching staff with a more efficient and modern learning environment while continuing to promote quality education grounded in Gospel values and Franciscan tradition.

    • The project is fully funded by Caritas Sant’Antonio with a total contribution of €20,000, excluding the Province’s local contribution of €5,000.00. The project will completely renovate the computer lab and the teachers’ workstations by replacing obsolete equipment with modern technology. This upgrade will ensure continuity in teaching and provide students with digital skills training that meets contemporary educational needs.
  • Current Status of the Project:
    • After receiving the first installment of the grant from Caritas Sant’Antonio ETS, the project got started on May 29, 2026. We paid for the ordered computer equipment, and the first sixteen computers with monitors for teacher workstations have already been delivered. Installation of these units in the classrooms is currently underway. The first computer was installed in the religion classroom to verify its proper functioning. The second phase of the project involves setting up the new computer lab with twenty computers for students. It will be used during computer science classes, extracurricular activities, and other educational programs. The project is expected to be completed between June and July of 2026.
