On March 8-12, 2026, the first part of the 17th Ordinary Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. Joseph in Slovenia took place at the friary in Ptuj, Slovenia. During this time, the new government of the Province was elected. The Minister General, Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI, presided over the Chapter. Others present included Friar Vincenzo COSATTI, the Assistant General for the Centralis Europae Foederatio (CEF), and Friar Igor SALMIČ, the Vicar General (in his capacity as the previous Minister Provincial of Slovenia).
During the first days of the Provincial Chapter, several reports covering the past four years were presented. The reports were further explored and discussed in depth during group work. A document for evaluation and priorities was also prepared for the development of the Provincial Four-Year Plan for the next four-year term. This document will help the new Definitory prepare the second part of the Provincial Chapter. The friars’ reflections revealed that the future of the Province does not depend only on structures or programs, but above all on the friars’ personal willingness to change, convert, and renew their religious life.
On Wednesday, March 11, a Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated with the Minister General presiding. He also gave the homily. Later, Friar Milan KOS was reelected as Minister Provincial (second term). On Thursday, March 12, at the recommendation of the Minister Provincial, the Definitors, members of the Provincial government, were also elected. They are: Friars Anton BRINJOVC, Provincial Vicar; Danilo HOLC (Provincial Secretary and Econom); and Janez ŠAMPERL and Andrej MOHORČIČ (Definitors).
The friars then made a pilgrimage to the basilica in Ptujska Gora where they prayed Evening Prayer under the mantle of Mary and gave thanks to the Lord for the blessing of this Provincial Chapter.
The second part of the 17th Ordinary Provincial Chapter will be held June 9-11, 2026, in Ptuj. At that time, the friars will continue to reflect on the projects and guidelines for the life of the Province. They will finalize the Provincial Four-Year Plan and appoint the heads of other Provincial offices.
