On September 21-27, 2025, the 12ᵗʰ Ordinary Federal Assembly of the Urbanist Poor Clares of Italy was held at the Monastery of Santa Rosa in Viterbo.
Twenty-four sisters, originating from Italy, Mexico, Romania and the Philippines, and currently members of various monasteries in the Federation, gathered to address some sensitive issues, such as formation, the relationship with the First Order, and work on the Constitutions.
On the morning of September 24, Mother Annachiara GIOVANARDI was elected as the new Federal President in the presence of the Minister General of the Friars Minor Conventual, Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI, and the Delegate and Spiritual Assistant to the Poor Clares, Friar Germano TOGNETTI. They were also present for the election of the Councilors, held that afternoon.
The newly elected Councilors are Sisters M. Carmela SALVATO (Federal Vicar), Elenachiara CECCHETTO, Ave Maria Rossella CARLETTI, and Chiaraluce NOVIELLO.
On September 25, all of the sisters went to Rome, where they obtained the Jubilee indulgence by passing through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. They were then welcomed as guests at the Friary of the Twelve Holy Apostles for a fraternal lunch with the friars. After lunch, Friar Mark FOLGER guided them on a tour of our ancient Basilica. In the afternoon, they returned to Viterbo to conclude the Assembly.
Let us pray for Mother Annachiara and her Council, that they may carry out their service with joy and willingness, in the spirit of our holy founders, Francis and Clare of Assisi.
