On March 5, 2020, the Holy Father Francis appointed the Most Reverend Gregory HARTMAYER, OFM Conv., previously Bishop of Savannah, Georgia, USA, as the new Metropolitan Archbishop of Atlanta, Georgia.

After attending the St. Amelia School (1965) and the Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda, New York, USA (1965 to 1969), he entered the Order. He completed his novitiate in the St. Joseph of Cupertino Friary in Ellicott City, Maryland (1969 to 1970), making his simple profession on August 15, 1970, and his solemn profession on August 15, 1973.
He obtained his Baccalaureate Degree in philosophy from the St. Hyacinth College and Seminary in Granby, Massachusetts (1974) and completed his theology studies at the St. Anthony-on-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer, New York (1979). He was ordained a priest on May 5, 1979, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, New York.
He served as Guardian, Pastor, teacher, school director, Definitor of the former Province of St. Anthony of Padua in the USA, etc.
He was appointed Bishop of Savannah on July 19, 2011, and received episcopal consecration on October 18 of that year.
