On August 29, 2024, our confrere Cardinal François-Xavier BUSTILLO RÍPODAS was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor by decree of the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel MACRON. The ceremony took place at the bishop’s palace in Ajaccio, Corsica, France.

The Legion of Honor is a French order of merit established by Napoleon Bonaparte by a law enacted on Floral 29 in the tenth year of the Republic of France (May 19, 1802), to reward civil and military service. To this day, it is still the highest honor awarded by the Republic of France to compatriots and foreigners who have earned merit for France in the civil, cultural, military and sports fields.
The honorable rank of Knight was granted to Cardinal BUSTILLO by decree of the President of the Republic of France dated July 3, 2024. The decree was issued upon the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the French Government. It was approved for execution by the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor, in view of the statements made by the Council of the Order indicating that the promotions and appointments it entailed were made in accordance with the laws, decrees, and regulations in force.
