On this 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi composing the Canticle of the Creatures, the Sacred Convent community has chosen to embark on a fresh venture into the mobile world.
With Easter approaching, the new San Francesco Digitale App was launched on April 12, 2025. The app provides access to the online version of the monthly magazine San Francesco Patrono d’Italia, the official publication of the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi. The April 2025 issue is already available. From now on, the app will also include the quarterly Momenti francescani [Franciscan Moments], a liturgical aid offering daily Gospel reflections from a Franciscan perspective.
With the San Francesco Digitale App, users can follow live celebrations from the Basilica of St. Francis, listen to the friars’ podcast, “Parole Povere” (Plain Words), which explores Franciscan spirituality in everyday life, and easily access the various social media accounts of the Franciscan community in Assisi (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, and YouTube) all in one place.
Friar Giulio CESAREO, Director of the Communications Office of the Sacred Convent, stated: “St Francis was truly a great communicator, in whom intelligence, creativity, authenticity and a pinch of shrewdness created an extraordinary blend of beauty, depth and empathy, that still challenges people today. We, his followers, although we cannot equal ‘such great wisdom’—as Dante Alighieri would say—seek to be inspired by Francis and strive to keep up with the times, using the means and sensibilities of the third millennium in order to share the good news, namely, that the life of each of us is truly special, because it is wrapped in love from beginning to end. We hope the San Francesco Digitale App will be a tool to reach more and more people.”
