On October 2 and 5, 2026, the friars of the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in South Korea organized an academic symposium to mark the 800th anniversary of the transitus of St. Francis.

The first day of the symposium was held at the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Friary in Daegu, South Korea. The second day took place at the St. Anthony Educational Center of the St. Francis of Assisi Friary in Seoul, South Korea. During the symposium, Friar Bonaventure Kyuhee HAN gave a lecture entitled “The Transitus of St. Francis According to the Testimony of the Franciscan Sources.” Friar Mattia Moon-ki CHOI then gave a lecture entitled “The Spiritual Significance of the Death of St. Francis.” Along with the friars, numerous members of the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) also participated in the two-day event. In total, more than fifty people attended the symposium, which provided an important opportunity to deepen reflection on the life, death, and spiritual legacy of the Seraphic Father, as part of the celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of his transitus.
