On March 20, 1950, a few Conventual Franciscan friars set out on an adventure to start this Franciscan educational pastoral work. Thanks to their courage, today we feel part of a great family and heirs to a tradition that continues to positively transform society.

Seventy-five years later, Saint Francis College remains committed to fostering academic and holistic growth, rooted in Franciscan values, emphasizing the importance of living fraternity in all aspects of society.
The 75th anniversary was celebrated on March 21, 2025, at the Moravia campus in San José, Costa Rica. It was a wonderful occasion to thank God and the community for this shared story of fraternity, faith, and knowledge. The celebration began with Mass presided over by the Most Reverend Gabriel Enrique MONTERO UMAÑA, OFM Conv., Bishop Emeritus of San Isidro de El General, Costa Rica.
One of the most memorable moments of the celebration was the enthusiastic singing of the hymn “Hermano Juglar” (Brother Minstrel), a favorite among the students. This Franciscan hymn beautifully reflects the joy that characterizes the school’s educational pastoral mission.
Approximately one thousand alumni attended the event, including those who graduated more than fifty years ago. A particularly moving moment came at the end of the Mass when some of these graduates from long ago addressed the current students.
For children and young people, it was inspiring to see these adults who had once studied in the same classrooms in which the young people were studying today. Moreover, despite the generation gap, they were all united by the same love for the way of life taught by St. Francis of Assisi.
It was a deeply meaningful day that also included a communal meal, historical photo exhibits, and a fraternal evening with music, song, dance, and much more. It was a time to reconnect, share stories, laugh, dance, and above all, strengthen fraternal bonds.
We trust that, with God’s help, this educational pastoral work will continue to enlighten the lives of children and young people for many years to come.
