Friar Luận Chính (Joseph) NGUYỄN, OFM Conv., a member of the Provincial Custody of St. Francis Anthony Fasani in Vietnam, is completing a master’s degree in public policy at the School of Public Policy and Management at Fulbright University Vietnam.

One of Fulbright’s core values is commitment to public service. As Friar Luận was considering serving the poor as a way of life, he found that he identified deeply with the mission of the school. At Fulbright, professors exhort students to adopt a spirit of service and provide them with useful tools for converting their good intentions into concrete benefits for the community and for Vietnam. Friar Luận says,

When I first came to Fulbright, I had a vision, but it was not clear. Learning from the professors here, I now feel inspired and encouraged, and I believe I can gradually implement concrete plans for serving the community.

About his professors, Friar Luận says,

Their expertise is both broad and deep, and they have hearts big enough to make their visions come true. Fulbright is a throwback to the ancient Confucian model where scholars are the true patriots. We are inspired by their service to our country through their contribution to public policy education.

After finishing his master’s degree, Friar Luận plans to return to northern Vietnam to build orphanages and daycare centers for children with Down’s syndrome. In addition, he plans to expand the daycare program run by the Order’s friary in Thái Bình Province.
Friar Luận was born on July 4, 1980, in the city of Buôn Ma Thuột (Đăk Lăk) in Vietnam. He made his temporary profession on August 2, 2012, his solemn profession on August 27, 2016, and was ordained to the diaconate on August 28, 2020.
