On September 29, 2024, Pax Christi International launched its new Catholic Nonviolence Initiative. The event took place at the Most Holy Child Mary Institute in Rome. Pope Francis sent his greetings to those gathered.

A panel discussion on the “Catholic Institute on Nonviolence: In Service to the Church and World” featured the Co-President of Pax Christi, Sister Teresia Wamûyû WACHIRA of Nairobi, Kenya, and two members of the new advisory board: His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung BO, SBD of Myanmar and His Eminence Cardinal Robert McELROY of San Diego, California, USA. Friar Michael LASKY is also a member of the advisory board. He attended the gathering with members of Roman VI, the JPIC commission for the Franciscan Family.
Marie DENNIS, the Senior Director of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative, concluded the evening saying: “Through the synod process, the global Catholic Church is discussing nonviolence as a practice of the faithful. The launch of the Catholic Institute for Nonviolence in Rome will continue this conversation now and after the synod closes.”
