Eight hundred years after his transitus, St. Francis of Assisi continues to walk with us. Today, we can also find him on our smartphones, thanks to “Brother Sun,” a free app designed to help users pray with Francis, read and explore his writings, and feel part of the great Franciscan family by drawing closer to his spirituality.

The app takes its name from Francis’ Canticle of the Creatures, in which he calls the sun “brother.” Just as the sun brightens our days, this app aims to provide a little light for those who use it. It is available in Romanian, English, Italian, and Spanish, requires no registration, and contains no advertising. Every day, the Brother Sun app offers a reflection and a small challenge to put into practice in daily life. It includes novenas, prayers, the writings of St. Francis, a calendar of feast days of Franciscan saints and blesseds, and prayers addressed to the saints of the Order. A search function also makes it easy to find specific words throughout all the texts. The app launched in July 2026, and was subsequently enhanced with new features, available in version 1.3, released on October 3. The app is aimed at people of all ages, with a special focus on young people. Its features include Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, quizzes to test one’s knowledge of St. Francis, a spiritual journal, and guided reading programs. It also includes a counter that tracks consecutive days dedicated to prayer, encouraging users to keep this good habit alive over time. The app began with an idea from Friar Clement TĂLIN, a member of the Province of St. Joseph, Spouse of the B.V.M. in Romania. He is also Vice Rector of his Province’s postulancy program in Prăjești, Romania, and a member of his Province’s Franciscan Vocation Center. He developed the app with the support of the Province to mark the Franciscan Jubilee Year. He invites the friars, religious sisters, and all the faithful they serve in the various Provinces to download the app, explore its content, and share it with friends and acquaintances. “Brother Sun” is available for free on iPhone and Android:
