On April 9-12, 2005, eight Capuchin Franciscan postulants and their directors from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, joined six Conventual Franciscan postulants and their directors, at the St. Bonaventure Friary in Chicago, Illinois, USA, for a JPIC program entitled: Reimagining JPIC for Franciscans Today.
Friar Michael LASKY, the General Delegate for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), led the group through a reflection on JPIC in relation to Franciscan ethics, character, and prayer. There was also a lesson about reconciliation through the lens of the Canticle of the Creatures.
Earlier that week, Friar Michael visited the novitiate in Arroyo Grande, California, USA. While there, he taught the novices about the development of Catholic social teaching within the context of Franciscanism, as a foundational spirituality for Catholic social justice initiatives.
