On Saturday, September 19, 2020, the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya reached yet another milestone when two of its friars were ordained priests and another two were ordained deacons.

The colorful celebration took place at the Holy Cross Church in Saba Saba, in Kenya’s Diocese of Muranga. The ordination was presided over by the Most Reverend James Maria WAINAINA, Bishop of Muranga. Those attending the ceremony included hundreds of lay faithful, priests, and religious brothers and sisters. They assembled in defiance of the Covid-19 pandemic protocols in order to bear witness to the ordination of their sons. Wearing face masks of varied colors, they all braved the heat of the day to cheer the friars who were being ordained.
In his moving homily, Bishop Wainaina encouraged the newly ordained to take on the challenge of bearing witness to the Gospel in a world that is hostile to the word of God.
The newly ordained priests are Friar Martin Mwangi WANJIKU who was posted to the St. Maximillian Maria Kolbe Friary in Ruiri and Friar John Mungai WAMBUI who was posted to the St. Francis of Assisi Friary in Limuru.
The newly ordained deacons are Friar Francis Mutuku KIIO who was posted to the Mary Mother of God Friary in Subukia and Friar Bernard Waweru MWANGI who was posted to the St. Maximillian Maria Kolbe Friary in Ruiri.
Hearty congratulations to our brothers and may the Lord strengthen them in their new apostolates.
