On Saturday, September 5, 2026, during Mass at the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of God, in Subukia, three friars from the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya made their solemn profession: Friars Daniel Maara KARANJA, Wesley Kiplangat CHERUIYOT, and Ben Antony Mbeki OWINO.
The Mass was presided over by Friar Blasio Ooko OLENGE, Assistant General for the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF). He urged the friars to always keep sight of what lies at the heart of their vocation and to grow in their love for God and the Order. His words held particular significance, as Friar Blasio had been their first formator during their year of postulancy in Ruiri, Kenya.
The Vicar Provincial, Friar Joseph Kikuyu MUNGUTI, received their solemn profession. He thanked all the friars who took part in the celebration and stressed the importance of each friar embracing and supporting the initiatives undertaken by the Province for the glory of God. He also reminded the three newly professed friars that they, too, are called to contribute to the spiritual growth of the Order.
Finally, he expressed his particular gratitude to the faithful, especially those who had come from the home parishes of the three newly professed friars. Their presence and active participation added to the joy and solemnity of the celebration at the Marian Shrine.
