On Saturday, August 15, 2020, the Solemnity of the Assumption of our Mother Mary, nine friars made their solemn profession at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Nairobi, Kenya.
The colorful celebration was presided over by the Minister Provincial of the Province of Kenya, Friar Obed Muriungi KAROBIA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and consequent directives issued by the government of Kenya which limit the number of people in public gatherings, only family members of the friars were invited. The celebration was also witnessed by a delegation of friars from all of the friaries in Kenya. The friars who professed their solemn vows before Friar Obed were from three jurisdictions of the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF), namely, Kenya, Zambia and Ghana.
The newly professed are Friars Edward Kutin MENSAH and Louis Etsey NANEWODO from the Provincial Custody of St. Anthony of Padua in Ghana; Friars Pethias Chitalu KAFULA, Patrick MULENGA and Davies LUNDA from the Province of the Franciscan Protomartyrs in Zambia; and Friars Peter Otieno ONYANGO, Jackson Mbonge MAWEU, William Mwirigi KILEMI and Vincent Onyango OPUBA from the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya.
All nine friars will continue their Theological studies at Tangaza University College while residing at the St. Bonaventure Formation House in Nairobi.
Congratulations to our brothers! May they may be strengthened in their zeal to follow the poor and humble Christ in the Conventual Franciscan family.
