December 13, 2024, marked the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Malta. On that day, the Province of St. Paul the Apostle in Malta received the “Ġieħ ir-Repubblika” (Tribute to the Republic), the highest honor awarded in Malta.
The award was conferred by the President of Malta, Myriam SPITERI DEBONO, during a presentation ceremony at the President’s Palace in Valletta, the capital of Malta. The Province was awarded this honor for the work that its confreres, Friars Mario SANT, Joseph FORMOSA and Stephen BORG, have carried out for the last ten years with Maltese patients in London. They have worked in around fifteen hospitals that specialize in different treatments and have also assisted Maltese patients at various residences where they live with their family members while they receive medical treatment in London.
We give thanks to our blessed God. May this be a moment of grace for us all. As we thank Friars Mario, Joseph and Stephen, who have carried out, and are still carrying out, this mission, let us also continue to pray for them.
