On July 9-11, 2024, the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico hosted the first round of a three-day refresher course in philosophy and theology at the María Inmaculada Formation House in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico.
This formation event is being offered in two rounds so that the greatest number of friars from the Province will be able to participate. Around fifteen friars participated in the first round.
The Benedictine monk Gonzalo PEREZ assisted and guided the friars in deepening their understanding of the vows from the perspective of moral theology.
Drawing always from Sacred Scripture, the friars deepened their understanding of the journey of embracing their vows. Our understanding of God shapes the faith journey we will make and the type of community we create together. Therefore, it is necessary to have a principled and well-formed conscience if we are to fully embrace our consecration by following the evangelical counsels.
Reflecting on the evangelical counsels through the lens of moral theology offers new perspectives that help us more clearly and deeply understand the significance of our vows. Thus, we are empowered to live out our consecration authentically, both individually and as a community. As a Province, it is our duty to always evaluate our fidelity to the vows and discover the best way to live them. By doing so, we become fulfilled individuals and true witnesses of God’s presence in the world
