The friars of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation in the USA discussed and approved two projects for their facilities at Mount St. Francis in Indiana, USA, which are in the spirit of Laudato Si’.

They chose to implement a program that will use geothermal heating and cooling in the chapel of their structure. They also chose to work with a third party provider to install solar panels on the roof of one of the buildings there. These two choices will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the retreat center as well as provide financial incentives.

Friar Andrew HENNESSY, a friar in simple profession, thoroughly investigated the options concerning this project and presented this information to the Provincial Chapter which then approved the proposal. One of the important elements in this endeavor is the witness value it will provide to those who use the retreat house, preaching about the importance of caring for Mother Earth by deed as well as by word.
