Project No. 30/2025 –
Purchase of a Vehicle for the Medical-Educational Center
in Chimbote, Peru

The Provincial Delegation in Peru, of the Province of St. Anthony and Bl. James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow) of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual has presented its final report on Social, Health, and Educational Support Project No. 30/2025, entitled “Purchase of a Vehicle for the Medical-Educational Center.” The project aims to support the activities of the Casa Paz y Bien in Chimbote, Peru, through the purchase of a vehicle to transport schoolchildren, the sick, and the most vulnerable members of the local community.

The project stems from the pastoral, educational, and healthcare needs of Casa Paz y Bien, located in Peru’s Santo Domingo-Chimbote settlement. Numerous families with very limited economic resources live in this area; many children suffer from malnutrition, anemia, and lack regular access to education or medical care. During the medical outreach campaigns organized by the friars, it became clear that the medical center and the small school needed to expand their services in order to provide children and their families with more adequate and dignified care and support.
For this reason, a vehicle was purchased to transport schoolchildren, the sick, and persons with disabilities. The vehicle can carry eleven people. It is used daily to bring children living in outlying areas to school, especially those who do not have safe means of transportation.
The vehicle is also used during medical outreach campaigns to transport medicines, medical equipment, and volunteers, as well as to transport patients to affiliated healthcare centers such as Maternidad de María. When necessary, the seats can be removed to allow the transport of a hospital stretcher or a wheelchair.
Casa Paz y Bien provides free medical care to over six hundred people, including children, mothers, and the elderly living in extreme poverty. The project is rooted in the Franciscan charism and the missionary tradition of the Blessed Martyrs of Pariacoto, Peru. It combines the proclamation of the Gospel with works of charity.
The project was funded by Caritas Sant’Antonio with a contribution of €11,400.00. Thanks to an additional discount, the final purchase price of the vehicle was lower than originally estimated and the project was therefore completed successfully.
The friars of the Delegation in Peru sincerely thank Caritas Sant’Antonio, whose support made it possible to concretely implement this service for the benefit of the local population.
