On December 17, 2022, Pope Francis received in audience His Eminence Cardinal Marcello SEMERARO, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

During the audience, the Supreme Pontiff authorized the promulgation of the Decree regarding the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Friar Martin BENEDICT, physician and priest. Friar Martin was a professed member of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He was born July 31, 1931, in Galbeni-Bacău, Romania and died July 12, 1986, in Onești, Romania.
The Venerable Servant of God Friar Martin BENEDICT is a rather extraordinary figure who had a dual vocation as a doctor and as a priest living in hiding, in the dramatic setting of the Communist persecution against the Catholic Church in Romania.
