The Capitulars had an early wake-up call today! They boarded buses and departed for Assisi at 6:30 a.m.
They arrived around 10:00 a.m., and after enjoying a brief convivial time together, the Capitulars resumed their work in the Cimabue Hall of the Conference Center beneath the lower square of the Basilica of St. Francis.
The oldest voting member, Friar James MOORE of the Province of Our Lady of the Angels in the USA [OLA], presided. After singing the Veni Creator, a roll call of the voting members was taken, and the election of the Minister General immediately followed.
On the first ballot, having received sixty-two votes out of seventy-nine, Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI was confirmed for a second term.
At noon, the Capitulars went in procession to the tomb of St. Francis. They sang the Te Deum and Friar Carlos made his profession of faith and took his oath of office. Friar Carlos raised the Relic of the Chartula and bestowed his solemn blessing on all present. Next, each of the friars gave Friar Carlos a fraternal embrace. Later, an official group photo of all the Capitulars was taken.
The day in Assisi continued with lunch in the grand refectory of the Sacred Convent and ended in the Lower Basilica with a 6:00 p.m. Mass on the Vigil of Pentecost presided over by Friar Carlos. In his homily, Friar Carlos renewed his thanks to the Lord and to his confreres for their continued trust in his service. The Holy Spirit is the source of living water that makes even the most arid soil fertile. Let us then invoke his grace so that we might bear abundant fruit.
We wish Friar Carlos A. TROVARELLI a new six-year term of joyful and fruitful ministry to the Order and to the Church.
