On Saturday, June 20, 2020, the mayor of the town of Somma Vesuviana announced the launch of the bureaucratic process to rename the piazza in front of its municipal cemetery after St. Maximilian Kolbe, the Martyr of Charity of Auschwitz.
The request to rename the piazza was submitted by the Militia of the Immaculate (M.I.) of the Italian Region of Campania. Once the request has been processed by all the competent offices involved, the renaming will give even greater honor to the memory of this great martyr of ours, who gave his life to save the father of a family from the horror of Auschwitz.
