At 11:00 a.m. on January 18, 2020, a commemorative Eucharist will be celebrated for our brother Bishop Elias James MANNING. The Mass will take place at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, 175 Williams Road, Troy, New York, USA.
Friar Elias was born on April 14, 1938, in Troy, New York. He made his simple profession as a Conventual Franciscan on August 11, 1959, his solemn profession on September 8, 1962 and was ordained to the priesthood on October 30, 1965.
His pastoral ministry was almost entirely devoted to the mission in Brazil. Affiliated to the Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M. in Brazil, Friar Elias served as Custos from 1976 to 1979. On May 13, 1990, he was ordained a bishop and led the Diocese of Valença, Rio de Janeiro, until 2014. The Lord called him to Himself on October 13, 2019.
