On December 10, 2025, the Minister General, Friar Carlos A. TROVARELLI, together with his Definitory, appointed Friar Jan MACIEJOWSKI, a religious of the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Poland (Gdańsk), Guardian of the Friary of San Pietro, also known as the College of Penitentiaries of the Vatican Basilica. He is also named Rector of the College, subject to confirmation by the Apostolic Penitentiary. The appointments took effect on January 7, 2026.
Friar Jan succeeds Friar Vincenzo COSATTI, a religious of the Provincial Custody of St. Leopold and St. Nicolas of Flüe in Austria-Switzerland, who served in this capacity for six years. Friar Vincenzo was appointed Assistant General for the Centralis Europae Foederatio (CEF) during the Order’s 203rd Ordinary General Chapter, celebrated in June of 2025.
On January 25, 2026, the College of Vatican Penitentiaries welcomed the Minister General, Friar Carlos; the Vicar General, Friar Igor SALMIČ; the Procurator General, Friar Maurizio DI PAOLO; and the General Econom, Friar Leszek ŁUCZKANIN. In their presence and before the community of the College of Penitentiaries, Friar Jan made his Profession of Faith, and thereby officially took office.
The friars of the community express their deep gratitude to Friar Vincenzo for his faithful and dedicated service over the years. They offer Friar Jan their prayers and fraternal best wishes for a fruitful ministry carried out through the duties of the office entrusted to him and in service to the Church.
