Dear brothers,
I am writing to all of you regarding the humanitarian emergency affecting Venezuela following the violent earthquake last Wednesday, June 24.
As is now widely known, the double earthquake that occurred near Caracas has had devastating consequences: numerous casualties, countless injured, and thousands of families left in conditions of extreme vulnerability without homes or jobs, and with essential services completely disrupted.
Various organizations and institutions worldwide have already mobilized to assist the population. Although our friars in Venezuela are fortunately far from the epicenter, they have committed all available resources—including their own labor and material means—to help meet the people’s most immediate needs.
The Federación América Latina Conventuales (FALC), together with several Provinces and Custodies of the Order, have responded promptly by providing an initial allocation of relief funds. Aware of the great generosity that has always characterized our Order, I ask the Federations, Provinces, Custodies, and individual fraternities to unite in prayer for the people of this country and to demonstrate our spirit of solidarity through concrete acts of support.
In addition to making its own contribution, the General Curia is ready to administer a solidarity fund in close contact with the local Custodial administration.
To the people of Venezuela, we offer our heartfelt prayers.
