The 800th anniversary of the transitus of our Seraphic Father, St. Francis of Assisi, offers a unique opportunity to reflect on his Christian experience, the concrete form his charism took in history, and the way he sought to pass it on. In this context, Francis’ final personal writings constitute one of the most authoritative and valuable sources for understanding the last years of his life and gaining deeper insight into his concerns, insights, and desires.

This anniversary invites us to carefully reread the words he wrote during the final years of his life, which still retain a special charismatic power today. With this purpose in mind, a brief study in Spanish was recently published on the writings Francis composed shortly before his death.
The book, entitled “The Last Writings of Francis of Assisi: Memory and Charismatic Legacy,” draws on historical research, textual analysis, and spiritual theology. It is the result of a collaborative effort between Conventual Franciscan Friar Marcos Alejandro QUESADA NAVARRO and two Capuchin Friars, Néstor Bernardo MOLINA PARRA and Anthony FALCÓN. United by their interest in Franciscan sources and spirituality, the three authors offer a rigorous analysis that is attentive to both the structure and meaning of the writings and their relationship to tradition and contemporary scholarship.
The book is approximately 110 pages long. It was issued by the publishing house of CESMAG University—Centro de Estudios Superiores María Goretti—in the Department of Nariño, Colombia. CESMAG is a Catholic university closely linked to the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin and characterized by a strong Franciscan-Capuchin identity.
The joint authorship also expresses a deeply Franciscan conviction: the charism received from St. Francis constitutes a legacy shared by the entire Franciscan Family. In this jubilee year, returning to “Francis the writer” also means listening anew to his voice, still alive in these last writings, where memory, experience, and charismatic legacy find some of their most significant expressions.
