On July 8-12, 2024, the Province of the Franciscan Protomartyrs in Zambia held the first part of its 7th Ordinary Chapter. The event took place in Ndola, Zambia.
The Minister General, Friar Carlos A. TROVARELLI, presided over the Chapter. He was accompanied by the Assistant General for the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans, Friar Anthony Bezo KUTIERO. There were 109 solemnly professed friars attending as Capitulars and non-Capitulars. On July 11, 2024, the fourth day of the Chapter, Friar Mathews KASONGO was elected the new Minister Provincial. He succeeds Friar Ferena LAMBE. Friar Mathews KASONGO had been serving as the Provincial Secretary since 2016, and has been the Pastor of the St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Ndola since 2020. On Friday, July 12, the Capitulars elected the members of the Provincial Definitory. They are Friars Alexander Chanda CHIMPUSA (Vicar Provincial); Eliam Kondwani PHIRI (Provincial Secretary); Bonaventure MPASA, Matthew MUMBA, Andrew Mwansa NGOSA, Peter Cliff MILANZI and Emmanuel CHAFWA (Definitors).
Friar James CHISHIMBA was elected Provincial Econom, and Friar Andrew M. NGOSA was elected Provincial Exactor.
