On Friday, April 27, 2018, the ecclesial and civil authorities of the city of Assisi organized a day of prayer for peace in Syria.

The initiative will take place every month. It is a response to the proposal made by St. John Paul II, when he gathered representatives of the world’s religions in Assisi on October 27, 1986.
The Bishop of Assisi and his entire Diocese; the Mayor of Assisi;, the public institutions and associations of Assisi; the Table of Peace Association and the Network of Peace Association jointly signed an open letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations, António GUTIERREZ. The letter proposed that the 27th of each month be a day of prayer and reflection for peace for the tortured land of Syria.
The motive behind this initiative this is “to silence weapons and reopen dialogue.” In this way, the cty of Assisi hopes to become an instrument of peace; hosting peace talks between the parties involved, and thereby ending the atrocious suffering which has been inflicted upon so many defenseless citizens.
