On November 17-18, 2024, the friars of the Province of Saints Cyril and Methodius in the Czech Republic attended a Provincial Spiritual Retreat in Brno. The retreat was an opportunity for spiritual renewal and for deepening communal bonds.

At the invitation of the friars in Brno, friars from Prague, Jihlava, and Opava participated in the event. Friar Piotr KWIATEK, OFM Cap., led the retreat. He focused his meditations on the theme of complaint as a phenomenon that detracts from the joy of living. He pointed out that gratitude is the path to inner peace and fullness of life. Instead of dwelling on difficulties, he encouraged everyone to recognize the gifts they receive each day. Such an attitude helps one perceive God’s presence in ordinary life situations.
During the retreat, a reconciliation celebration was held, allowing the participants to experience God’s mercy. Friar Piotr shared his insights during Mass with the faithful. In his homily, he spoke about the gifts through which God’s blessings are bestowed upon the faithful.
The Provincial spiritual retreat was a time to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and to rediscover the joy that comes from simple things and from being together. Through communal prayer and fraternal activities, the retreat became a source of inspiration for further spiritual journeys and for strengthening community ties.
As shown by Friar Piotr, gratitude is an important value that can enrich our spiritual life and our relationships with others. An attitude of gratitude opens the heart to the light and helps us see the good that surrounds us, despite the difficulties.
