The Holy Father has accepted the resignation (May 4, 2019) of the Most Reverend Ignazio SANNA, Metropolitan Archbishop of Oristano (Sardinia, Italy). At the same time, he has appointed our confrere, the Most Reverend Roberto CARBONI, Bishop of Ales-Terralba, to take up the pastoral government of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Oristano as its new Metropolitan Archbishop.

The Archdiocese of Oristano (Arborea) occupies an area of 3,112 square kilometers, [1201 sq. mi] with a population of 134,540. It has 85 parishes, 92 diocesan priests, and 20 religious, including the friars from our San Francesco friary, located a few steps from the cathedral. The Archdiocese also has 3 permanent deacons and 7 seminarians studying theology, as well as a fair number of minor seminarians residing in Oristano (data from the Archdiocese’s website).
Best wishes to Friar Roberto for a fruitful episcopal ministry, under the protection of Our Lady of Remedy and Saint Archelaus, Martyr and Patron Saint of the Arborean Archdiocese.
