On Sunday, September 26, 2021, the Assistant General for the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF), Friar Anthony Bezo KUTIERO, blessed and inaugurated the new Our Lady of the Angels – Portiuncula Friary in Awoshie-Anyaa near Accra, Ghana. The friary belongs to the Provincial Custody of St. Anthony of Padua in Ghana. The Assistant General was assisted by the Custodial Vicar, Friar Eugene Harrison Owusu ANTWI BOASIAKO.

The blessing of the new friary began with the recitation of Evening Prayer. Those present included Friar Obed Muriungi KAROBIA, Minister of the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya and President of AFCOF; Friar Anthony Senanu ASUH, Guardian of the Friary of St. Bonaventure in Sowutuom-Accra, other friars from the St. Bonaventure formation house in Accra; and parishioners from the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Awoshie-Anyaa.
The Assistant General urged the friars to make the new friary a welcoming home for those living there and for those who will visit the friars. He stressed that the friary should be an example of love and give witness to the presence of Christ within the community. This is because, as friars, we give witness to a house not made of bricks but a house made of love.
The Custodial Vicar expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the construction of the friary, in particular, he was grateful to the Italian Province of St. Anthony of Padua (Northern Italy), whose generous and maternal sponsorship made possible the construction of this new Conventual reality.
