On November 25-29, 2019, part one of the first Ordinary Provincial Chapter of the new Province of Mary Immaculate in Indonesia took place at the Carmelite Retreat Center in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
The Minister General, Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI, presided over the Chapter, assisted by Friar Benedetto Seung-jae BAEK, the Assistant General for the Federation of Asian Minors Conventual (FAMC).
The Chapter began on the afternoon of November 25, with a reflection led by Friar Fictorium Natanael GINTING on “Meeting as a Form of Franciscan Formation According to the Experience of St. Francis of Assisi”. After a brief pause, a Votive Mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated, presided over by the Minister General.
On the second day, Friar Carlos officially opened the Chapter. At that time, reports were presented on the government of the former Custody in recent years. On the third day, the Capitulars worked in groups and in assembly, discussing various aspects of the new Province.
On November 28, Friar Carlos swore-in Friar Cornelius Tri Chandra FAJARYANTO as the Province’s first Minister Provincial. Friar Cornelius had been previously elected by mail ballot. Later, the members of the Provincial Definitory were elected. They are Friars Robert Tarcisius Zonpiter SIHOTANG, Vicar Provincial; Friar Titus Khian LIMNGARDI, Provincial Secretary; and Andreas Elpian GURUSINGA, Eduardus Yohanes PADIYANA, and Friar Ignasius SUSILO, Provincial Definitors. Late that afternoon, Friar Paskalis HANOE was elected Provincial Econom and Friar Petrus Gonzales ZONGGAR was elected Provincial Exactor.
The second part of the Chapter is scheduled for January 27-31, 2020.
