On July 13-17, 2020, the 231st Ordinary Chapter of the Province of St. Bernardine and St. Angelo in Italy (Abruzzo) was held at the Sant’Antonio di Padova Friary in Pescara. The Minister General, Friar Carlos TROVARELLI, presided. He was assisted by Friar Giovanni VOLTAN, the Assistant General for the Federazione Intermediterranea Ministri Provinciali (FIMP).

After reading reports, the twenty-three Capitulars present (apart from the Minister General and the Assistant General) were given the opportunity to express themselves about the past and future of their Provincial fraternity.
Before the elective phase of the Chapter, the Minister General spoke to the Capitulars and proposed that they consider electing a friar from outside the Province as their Minister Provincial, with the hope of offering external and qualified help, in view of the Province’s upcoming unification with the Province of Puglia. The unification is scheduled for 2024, as established by the last General Chapter.
On the afternoon of Thursday, July 16, Friar Mauro DE FILIPPIS DELFICO was elected Minister Provincial by the thirty-three Capitulars present. Friar Mauro was born on March 5, 1968, in Pescara, Italy. He was ordained to the priesthood there on May 6, 2000. Friar Mauro studied in Assisi and in Rome at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant’Anselmo. After serving as Provincial Secretary and Econom in Pescara, he was transferred in 2004 to Lanciano, Italy, where he held the office of Guardian for four years, and later, served as the National Assistant of the Militia of the Immaculate.
On July 17, the members of the Provincial Definitory were elected. They are Friars Attilio TERENZIO, Vicar; Alfonso DI FRANCESCO and Fabrizio DE LELLIS, Definitors; and Giuseppe ALTIZI, Secretary.
The second part of the Chapter is scheduled for August 17, 2020. At that time, the Province Four-Year Plan will be approved and the Provincial Econom and Guardians will be elected.
