On May 30–31 2026, the Elective General Assembly of the Militia of the Immaculata (M.I.) in Spain took place in Madrid. Representatives from the local M.I. groups of Madrid, Barcelona, Murcia, Yepes, Irún, and Rivas Vaciamadrid attended the meeting. The International Assistant to the M.I. Friar Gilson Miguel NUNES, and the M.I. International President, Miquel BORDAS PRÓSZYŃSKI, accompanied them.
The first day began on Saturday morning with a pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Cerro de los Ángeles. There, a Mass was celebrated, presided over by the Most Reverend by César A. FRANCO MARTÍNEZ, Bishop Emeritus of Segovia, Spain.
The Elective Assembly officially opened on Saturday after lunch. The participants, including the National Assistant, Friar Jesús María JIMÉNEZ MARTÍNEZ, gathered in the parish facilities of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church in Madrid, the national headquarters of the M.I. in Spain. They first listened to outgoing President Cristina MONSALVE, who thanked the M.I. members for their support during her term of service. The Assembly also received a financial report for the most recent fiscal year. The members then discussed and approved the National Directory of the M.I. in Spain.
Saturday’s work ended with a torchlight Rosary in the square in front of the church.
On Sunday, May 31, the participants recited Morning Prayer together with the Franciscan community. Afterwards, the Assembly participants elected the new National Council and the Auditors.
Cristina MONSALVE was elected to her second term as National President (2026–2030). Almudena RUEDA was elected Vice President, Eduardo GALERA was elected Secretary, and María Ángeles GONZÁLEZ, Luis Carlos CELY VELÁSQUEZ, and Nieves AMADO were elected Council Members. The Assembly also elected three Auditors.
The M.I. Assembly in Spain concluded with Mass celebrated on the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. The Minister Provincial of the Conventual Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Montserrat in Spain, Friar Juan Antonio ADÁNEZ SILVÁN, presided. During the Mass, five new members consecrated themselves to the Immaculata.
Also during the Mass, only a few days after Pope Leo XIV’s first visit to Spain, the participants entrusted the fruits of his apostolic journey to the Lord. The participants, “lifting up their eyes,” sang the hymn composed for the Pope’s visit [“Alzad la mirada”], expressing their hope that this encounter with the Successor of St. Peter might also become a source of grace and encouragement for the M.I. in its mission.
