On May 1-2, 2026,the Province of Our Lady of Montserrat in Spain conducted an Extraordinary Provincial Chapter in Madrid. The Chapter focused on the process of restructuring and revitalizing Provincial life. The friars reflected on the current and future challenges of their Conventual and formational presence in Spain, in an atmosphere of prayer, discernment, and hope.
Twenty-four friars participated in the Extraordinary Chapter, which was presided over by the Minister Provincial, Friar Juan Antonio ADÁNEZ SILVÁN. Also present, on behalf of the Order, was the Assistant General for the Federazione Intermediterranea Ministri Provinciali (FIMP), Friar Colin Charles SAMMUT. The Capitulars concentrated on discerning God’s will for the life and mission of the friars in Spain. The Province currently has sixty friars and ten friaries—including the house in Astorga (León), Spain.
Working in a calm and trusting atmosphere, the Capitulars addressed several issues concerning the life of the Province, namely, the home for elderly friars in Pamplona (Navarre), several closures, the need to expand the formation house in Madrid due to the arrival of new vocations, and better use of some of the larger friaries. The friars also discussed the promising opening of the pilgrim hostel on the Camino de Santiago [Way of St. James] in Astorga. This Order-wide project is also supported by the presence of a friar from the Province.
The friars entrusted this phase of the Province’s life and mission to Our Lady of Montserrat, patroness and guide, asking for her continued protection and intercession.
