On November 29, 1223, Pope Honorius III approved the Later Rule of St. Francis of Assisi. This year marks the 800th anniversary of its approval. Friar Zdzislaw J. KIJAS addresses this event in his new book, “Bursting with Life: Eight Hundred Years of the Rule of St. Francis.” The book contains a preface by Pope Francis, an introduction by the Minister General, Friar Carlos A. TROVARELLI, and is published in Italian and Polish by Edizioni Messaggero Padova.

“The Rule is not an obstacle course, but a compass that orients us and guides us on our journey. With this essential text, Francis testifies that being preoccupied with details is not what really motivates us. Francis shows us that by accepting the challenge of reinterpreting our personal history, we can realize a life that is joyous and supportive. We discover the universal love of Jesus to be stronger and more attractive. Thus the Rule does not separate us, divide us or stress our differences, but leads us to a shared journey” (from the preface by Pope Francis).
This book is accessible to anyone; each reader will find food for thought and insights in the points the author makes. In contrast to the postmodern mindset, the Rule of St. Francis can still be a source of inspiration today.
