On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Minister General, Friar Carlos TROVARELLI, announced that Pope Francis has appointed Friar Antonio RAMINA as the new Rector of the Pontifical Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua.

Friar Antonio replaces Friar Oliviero SVANERA in this service. Friar Oliviero was chosen by the Chapter of the Italian Province of St. Anthony of Padua (Northern Italy) to serve as the Guardian of the San Francesco d’Assisi Friary in Treviso, Italy.
Friar Antonio RAMINA was born on April 7, 1970, in Vicenza, Italy. He made his simple profession on September 2, 1999, his solemn profession on October 4, 2002, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 2004. He is a professor of spiritual theology at the Theological Faculty of Triveneto and at the Theological Institute of St. Anthony, Doctor in Padua. Since 2011, he has been Rector of the St. Anthony, Doctor Post-Novitiate House in Padua. He also served two terms as a Definitor for the Province of Northern Italy.
